Safety and Accreditation

The centre is fully licensed under the Activity Centres (Young Persons Safety ) Act 1995 and the Adventure Activities Licensing Regulations 1996. It is inspected by the Adventure Activities Licensing Authority ( AALA) and holds a full Licence for Kayaking, Open Canoeing, Rock Climbing, Abseling, Coasteering, Hill walking and Mountaineering, Caving.

It is also a Welsh Canoe Association Approved Centre for paddle-sports.

The Head of Centre is a long standing member of the Association of Heads of outdoor Education Centres (AHOEC ) and serves as the Advisory Head-teacher for Outdoor Education for the Oxfordshire Local Authority.

The centre complies with all the regulations with reference to fire, food and hygiene and other premises related requirements. It has robust and rigorous emergency procedures in place, which cover the wide range of activities offered.

The centre consequently can give considerable assistance in the planning, risk assessment and on going risk assessment processes. It offers support in the supervision of groups as outlined within the DfES Health and Safety of Pupils on Educational Visits Guidance and associated supplementary guidances.

The Centre will provide:

  • Qualified and competent staff who are all CRB checked.
  • Supervision on all activities both in the centre and remote locations.
  • Night time call-out assistance.
  • Local weather forecasts and related planning.
  • Detailed local knowledge.
  • Alternative programme options appropriate to the group and prevailing conditions.
  • Support for behavioural problems, illness or injury.
  • Rigorous and robust emergency procedure frameworks.
  • Advice and guidance on specific activities as well as educational content of the programmes.
  • All in course transport.
